Federica Pellegrini is an Italian retired swimmer who won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. On the other hand, she also became the first woman ever to break the 4-minute barrier in the 400 m freestyle (50 m) with a time of 3:59.15, at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Luca Marin – Federica had previously been in a relationship with her teammate Luca Marin.
Filippo Magnini (2011-2016) – Pellegrini was in a relationship with swimmer Filippo Magnini from August 2011 to late 2016.
Matteo Giunta – Pellegrini announced her engagement to her long-time coach Matteo Giunta on October 30, 2021, and tied the knot at San Zaccaria, Venice on August 27, 2022. In July 2023, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child together.
She is the first female and only Olympic swimming champion of Italian origin to have set world records in more than one event.
Pellegrini is the only swimmer in both the male and female categories to have won eight medals in a row in the same event (200 meters freestyle) at the World Championships.
She became the first female swimmer to qualify for five consecutive Olympic finals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the same specialty (200 m freestyle).
Federica was chosen to be a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the past.
She announced her retirement from active competition in 2021.
Pellegrini got her nickname “La Divina” from Italian journalists meaning “The Goddess”.
She appeared on her first international podium at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and won a silver medal in the 200 m freestyle at the age of 16 and is the youngest Italian athlete to win an Olympic medal in an individual event.
