These remixes were made by online DJs Hood Internet and Hood Internet as well as indie electronic artist Dan Deacon, both remixes included vocals from GZA. In fact, it was a trip to South Africa in 2006 with Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), and meeting President Nelson Mandela, that triggered Salvador to write the positive message and music of “Rise Up.”
In 2004, Salvador formed in 2004 the Salvador Santana Band. The band members included Emerson Cardenas (bass), Quincy McCrary (vocals, keyboards), Woody Aplanalp (guitar), Tony Austin (drums) and Jose Espinoza (sax, percussion and vocals). Alongside them, Salvador performed in a new musical style that incorporates elements of hip-hop and jazz. His musical roots are rooted in an early education received from his father and grandfathers, Saunders King and Jose Santana as well as his father Carlos and the music of jazz musicians John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, and Oscar Peterson and a healthy use of hip-hop from today’s artists such as Atmosphere and Ozomatli.
Salvador and his group have appeared on stages at The Montreux Jazz Festival, the Bonaroo Music and Arts Festival and The High Sierra Festival, South by Southwest and the highly acclaimed New Orleans Jazz Festival. Salvador has been involved in various projects that were not part of his ambitions as a soloist, including The Hymns for Peace video, which was released in 2004 and Carlos Santana’s father’s 2013.
