Sam Short drops the moody brooding dark-pop single and emotive music video titled "Hooked"

Not holding back at all and totally making us all feel less alone, Sam Short delivers an awesome dark indie-pop single, titled “Hooked”, and releases the awesome emotive accompanying visualiser music video. This is the follow-up to her previous single “Masterpiece”.

Sam Short is a rising LA-based singer-songwriter who is originally from Oregon. She started slaying with her releases when she started her career by dropping the debut single “Already Mine” back in 2022, which went viral on TikTok and is currently her most-streamed song on Spotify with 4 million streams. The track itself is an empowering anthem and Sam Short has continued the positive energy and body confidence in her follow-up tracks, including the incredible body-positive single, “Naked”, which became her second most-streamed single on the streaming platform, with 2.8 million streams. She received even more success with the release of “Taste It”, which gained 20k pre-saves and currently sits at 1.8 million Spotify streams. Last month saw her open for ELIO at The Echo, LA and she also recently sold out shows at LA’s infamous Hotel Cafe and Winston House. With the recent releases of “Masterpiece” and “Hooked”, she’s currently working on a full-length debut EP, set to be released this summer, This is a rising star we all can’t get enough of.

Talking about the track, Sam Short said: “As someone who struggles with OCD, ‘Hooked’ is a song I wrote about my intrusive thoughts. Throughout the song, listeners are able to tap into my unapologetically dark inner monologue and get a glimpse into what goes through my head on a daily basis. However, despite its cynical, cheeky nature, I wrote this song to help those struggling with mental health issues and intrusive thoughts feel as though they are a little less alone. This is a song I wish I could’ve heard when I was at my worst.”

Written by Jordan Tariff and Sam Short, whilst Joe Pepe and Daniel Geraghty produced the track, “Hooked” is a mental health-empowered song that sees this singer-songwriter really envelope all her struggles and unleash them in these powerful lyrics that will certainly make a relatable impact to millions of listeners. As mental health has become more open and people actually speak about their feelings – something society should’ve done a long time ago – this track easily explains some of the feelings many of us are going through and there are plenty of incredible lines that listeners will be able to empathise with due to there being a connotation with their own lives. The gentle rhythmic pop beats only emphasise Sam Short’s stunning vocals that not only showcase the emotion for the song but a sense of self-reflection and understanding of who she is and where these specific feelings and lyrics are coming from. “Hooked” isn’t just your average mainstream pop song, Sam Short is seriously opening conversations and using her art form for good positive energy, and we’re totally here for it.

Alongside the release of the single, Sam Short dropped a visualiser music video that has been directed by Ivy Tellin and Callum Walker Hutchinson, which continues the positive energy by making sure that her listeners know she embodies these feelings and means every single word and that none of us are truly alone even when we feel like we have no one. She looks beautiful in the visual scenes, wearing this gorgeous black number that brings style and fashion to her moody, down and mentally upset figure that she is personifying, conveying the emotional lyrics brilliantly.
