Two burned in gas barbecue explosion

TWO people have been taken to hospital after a gas barbecue they were trying to light exploded in Lalor.

The pair was injured when they tried to light the gas barbecue at a property on Parfrey Ave about 5.24pm.

“One had jumped into the pool located at the residence and then moved into the shower to cool the burns,” an MFB spokesman said.

The incident prompted the MFB to issue a safety warning over equipment.

“It is a timely reminder that you should check the connections with soapy water to ensure that there are no leaks in your equipment before attempting to ignite your portable gas barbecues,” the spokesman said.

An investigation is underway.
